There are obvious things like <em>Bewitched </em>or <em>the Adams Family</em> etc. and others where there's just a hint of the supernatural like <em>Northern Exposure</em>. Somewhere in the middle are a crop of series where more or less normal people meet the weird and wonderful but go on being normal people. I keep thinking of the idea of Magic Realism, although that's not quite right. Examples of what I mean are <em>Dead like me, Wonderfalls, and Pushing Dasies. Which is mostly about silly vampires leading sort of normal lives but they do intersect with normal people sometimes. The serieses get great, the movie is great. The production throughout was a bit clunky and it often had that am-dram feeling that seems to be compulsory for some BBC shows, which I imagine is lack of cash and doing everything in one take. It also suffered with cast changes as in "and then they all died". So, yeah, I love the more extreme end of your spectrum. Stuff like:<br /> <br /> Resident Alien (a bit muddled but enjoyable)<br /> Santa Clara Diet (enjoyed this one a great deal)<br /> Russian Doll (great)<br /> Made for Love (tech based rather than supernatural but same vibe)<br /> <br /> And... not sure if these are on your spectrum since there's nothing explicitly supernatural, but they *might* satisfy the same whatever...<br /> <br /> Poker Face<br /> Basically Columbo. Woman who can detect lies keeps stumbling into murders. Got some wit to it, very enjoyable.<br /> <br /> Kevin Can F**k Himself<br /> I've only seen the first season so far but I really like this one. It's about a woman who's married to the kind of obnoxious asshole you'd find in an 80s sitcom. When he's on-screen it *is* an 80s sticom, it goes to a multi-camera, live audience, brightly lit 80s sitcom format. And when he's not on-screen it's the depressing nightmare of the reality of her life.<br /> <br /> Severance<br /> This is more technology mystery-box. But it's compelling and consistently unsettling.<br /> <br /> Review<br /> These are getting more tenuously related to what you asked for.
