Before lockdown started and after. Been using the spare room to store important things from the garage while I was rebuilding that bugger. Had to do a bit of a tidy to find the desk, and then run some ethernet cable so I could actually have a reliably internet connection in here.
I've since changed one monitor (need to find the allen keys so I can adjust the heights), and got a new chair. Much nicer than being in my actual office, although the heating at this end of the house is shit :((
I built this desk and shelf a couple of months ago, it's solid oak kitchen worktop and then some legs and brackets from Ikea. Not much depth room available so it's very wide. The keyboard goes away to be replaced by a laptop in times of actual working, but I'm furloughed at the moment. I really really need to something about the wiring though. And find a place to put my exciting Oculus Quest headset that arrived yesterday.
Until the lockdown I've barely used my phone, probably averaging 3-4 actual phone calls a year, checked email a few times, checked some web development stuffs a few times...
Anyhoo here's a few more shots of my current workplace.
The blue raku jug is a treasured gift from my old pottery master, er Ceramic Artist David Cohen, who died a coupla years ago. We stayed in touch over the years, he sent me a couple of his books. I think I last saw him in person ~2003, when he and his wife Frances graciously hosted Mrs.D and I in their home for most of a week.
Keep in mind that that was at the start of lockdown and I've a) been working in here daily for 4 weeks and b) I'm terrible at keeping things tidy (fail)
"To make the image, a daguerrotypist would polish a sheet of silver-platedcopper to a mirror finish, treat it with fumes that made its surface light sensitive, expose it in a camera for as long as was judged to be necessary, which could be as little as a few seconds for brightly sunlit subjects or much longer with less intense lighting; make the resulting latent image on it visible by fuming it with mercury vapor; remove its sensitivity to light by liquid chemical treatment, rinse and dry it, then seal the easily marred result behind glass in a protective enclosure".
/Everyone's/ got that equipment lying around the house. Surely?
Chair has a history: It was originally my bosses chair, she got it from her father who ran a lumber supply store Piercey's and later became a big-time developer.
Leather upholstery stuffed with horsehair, still has the original casters and they even roll (how many plastic shite chairs can claim that?).
I reckon it might be 1920s-30s vintage judging by the style.
“a man gets struck by lightning and goes “zzzt”, Jason gets shot and dies and the submarine blows up.”
Thanks Xen. That looks more or less identical to what I remember 10(?) years ago, except the keyboard is smaller and potentially looks less full of ash? But surely not!
