This is a book from an unpublished manuscript found after the author's death.
I read Andromeda Strain and watched all the Jurassic Park (even the awful ones, their name is legion) and some assorted other Michael Crichton movies, including the surprisingly good "13th Warrior" (apparently Vikings and Arabs were good buddies in fact, as well as in MC's fetid imagination, considering they recently turned up viking burial garb embroidered with Koran quips).
I'm not sure where this one fits into his scifi-ish oeuvre, except it is similarly formulaic and laden with the tedious minutia of his researches that might have been better spent on character and plot development.
This approach probably works better for fleshing out a screenplay than say, a novel, and maybe that's what he had in mind for this property. Or maybe he thought it would sully his over-estimable (IMO) authorial reputation.
Anyhoo, I like pirate books and movies so I did read it. It was mostly childish, with added sex and violence.“Watch this amazing footage of a camera falling out of a airplane and into a trough for pigs” |
