My ever-loving Charlotte & I will be coming down to Londres on Friday 23rd June for a weekend of cultural pursuits.  Who fancies hooking up at the Fitzroy or other traditional meat market at lunchtime on Saturday 24th?

Will we be the farthest-flung participotaters?

Alas, I shall be working. I may even be working in Halifax, if I don't get out of it.

Incidentally, it looks like you can't swear in the Fitzroy any more, which is badgering ridiculous.

I'm in.

If it turns out we can't swear, I know many other hostelries in the vicinity without that restriction.

Hmm. The ones like that would probably be a bit of a hike from gentrified central London.

What's a pint go for these days? Last I was there (~2003) it was around £3. In the mid '70s it was 90p in Edinburgh IIRC.

The pub in question is relatively cheap, you probably still can get one for around £3. £3.50 maybe. Standard London price is getting silly though, you can easy pay a fiver in lots of places, more in the real traps. It's making pubs have a lot fewer young people in than I remember from when I was 18 or so. On the other hand, way more interesting tasty drinks to drink now.

Bah, we're down in London this weekend for a family meat up. I won't have the time, nor the pounds, nor the inclination for another trip.

I may visit the Fitzroy and leave a cardboard cut out of myself in there.

As many as that? I don't feel like it's hard to find several within a short walk anywhere in London though so maybe it's necessary. "Traditional" can be an excuse for bad, too.

I haven't set foot inside a 'neighborhood pub' (or bar) since I don't remember (there's probably 6-8 I walk past near our apartment at some point during the week, most appear to be dives). We go to a pub downtown 3-4 times a year that has really good jazz (thepilot.ca) and have been known to stop for a meal at random pub while out of town. Mostly drink when I'm watching dvds or playing computer games home.

Apologies to those who can't make it, but glad a few can (how's it looking, BP?).  I think we should claim that we're a social gathering of Tourettes sufferers and see how much swearing we can get away with before they chuck us out. Let us consider it on.  See you there!
