I noticed Manthorp is in the local paper today, performing in a creative week long treasure hunt.

Who're you being, Steve? It doesn't say what the theme is.

They talk bollocks, as is to be expected of the gentlefolk of the press.  Greyhair & I have conceived & we're putting together the In For a Penny treasure hunt, but we are not performing in it.  We're hiring in actors we've worked with before on improvisational things at Deershed Festival and Birmingham Hippodrome.

We're minting 2,000 Yorkshire Pennies (as issued by the Yorkshire Penny Bank, natch), and during the run of the treasure hunt in the two weeks leading up to Easter people will meet a Very Tall Banker outside the venerable institution and follow clues and characters to get one of their own.  Graphic of the Yorkshire Penny attached!

How did the Bury'd Treasure hunt go?

A few people with kids I know put photos on Facebook of them doing it.

I swear the T&A gets worse every day.

Still, thanks for clearing that up. The penny's look grand.

Like the penny, but are those photos of a real penny, or artist renderings? Also, is the tall banker a dude on stilts? Are there Morris Dancers? Teh forum is not respecting my line breaks. I hate that.

They're final renders prior to minting in bronze in Germany.

The *Very* Tall Banker is an actor on Powerisers, who has been known to do a rather impressive standing somersault on them.

We're holding back on the Morris Dancers for next year.

I will see in a second whether Teh respects my line breaks...

Sounds good, I'll do my best way to get there. I know we've gota family wedding early April which will knock out one weekend then, but should be available on the other one. :)

The line breaks thing was my own fault.

I would like to see one of the bronze pennies. I like coins (though I don't collect them), and feature a penny designed by the Canadian painter Alex Coleville on an online photo project http://www.designartcraft.com/photo/penny-1.htm (come to think of it the project was even named after his penny). I think my two favourite coins of all time were the ha'penny and the tuppence encountered on my first visit to Scotland in ~1973, which were, of course, soon to be decimated.

I hope your tall banker performs some somersaults in costume, and the performance is documented on video.

I do not want to see Morris Dancers.

Edit: two many two's.

It refers to the old Roman empire practice of killing one in ten of a resisting populace. These fine coins were thusly knifed before their time. The tyrant subjected them to a premature and unjust demise. Their comely shapes were struck down by an evil and inexorable system of maths, leading precipitously to the present day brexit, the reclaiming of English heritage from Johnny Foreigner (I could go on like this for hours, say when).

Bury'd Treasure went very well - so well they've asked us to do it again this year.  But they're out of the (sports lottery) funding they had last year, so we're having to put it together for buttons.
