Still, a bit of an odd usage, though. Opposed is far more usual. (Google agrees: opposed [49.4 million] vs apposed [0.29 million]).

Oxford, my usual source of everything words has apposition, but not appose.

However my 1980 edition of Funk & Wagnalls agrees with me. And also Xen. So, it should be declared correct. Yes, it should.
