I think what staggers me the most about that is all these years I was never truly convinced that Trig wasn't either a) A regular playing us up or b) Just generally trolling/winding us up

It appears that, all along, Trig really was just Trig. What a truly bizarre person!

Good find, I even vaguely remember the thread!

True.

Trig was/is a genuine member of teh forum who was, as it goes, trying (as best he knew) to wind people up as as troll - some of the time.

I don't believe Trigg ever 100% got a grip on what trolling should be like, which is why he proved so irritating to so many. I've found the newspaper reports as funny as anybody, but I also hope he finds some contentment. Doesn't seem likely, but you never know.

Who was that other madcap chap from somewhere on the east coast, Hornsea was it? Posted here for a while and had a trolling like ambiance.

Was that the weather , earthquake, and volcano chap? All controlled by satellites. I know Weatherlawyer was into that stuff too, but there was definitely another one.

53NORTH? Ah yes, he was into all sorts of alternative science and conspiracy stuff, not just 2012 end-of-the-world. Posted here as recently as March.

I mean, there have been a few over the years. I was going to mention Katsung, but he wasn't exactly your typical troll; more a seriously ill individual who posted on any public forum that hadn't banned him. He never interacted with anybody and I don't think he was out to wind people up. I have a feeling I read a long post about him years ago, before he showed up here. He was supposed to be quite a decent software developer when he took his pills (much in the Terry Davis Temple OS manner) but never did.

Some of the Castle peeps posted their inarticulate ramblings IIRC, but I expect they're mainly dead of heroin ODs, motorbike accidents and gang-fights by now.

That was the thing: for all of the trolling, there was an undercurrent of desperately seeking acceptance, and some of the stuff that he revealed about himself and his family life in the process was quite disturbing, but very sad.

53North - that's the man.

I'd be interested to see if the date for the end of the world has shifted from 2012. We need to be made aware of these things, it sounds important.

I presume we're referring to the Mayan end of the world trope for 2012 (debunked, wonder of wonders)

I bet typos crept into the stone carving process, but I don't think there's a ctrl + z shortcut on a chisel, so they'd have left it in and hoped for the best.  :-/

I dunno what we're referring to - you're the one who brought it up.

If I was carving stone, I'd trace it out first, then carve it absolutely flawlessly.

Well.... yes. I'm presuming /I'm/ talking about the Mayans then. :C

But what if your tracing was incorrect though you thought it was spot on? Maybe some prankster back at head office has decided that a 9 year shift in the end of the world is just the most hilarious thing to mess with the minds of those people living c4500 years into the future.

You can still make flawless mistakes.

That's why you don't let head office make such decisions - their job is to hire the experts, not to dabble with things they don't understand - and you bring the provisional design to the relevant high priests for review and approval before anything goes into production.

Also, you sure you don't mean Sons of Anarchy? They were big nine years ago...

Their job is to hire the experts, ignore them, dabble in things they don't understand, and then blame the experts when their daft plans blow up.

Pretty much describes my experience of head offices.
