It's been a while since I last ripped one of my dvd's and I can't remember what I was using, I do remember it had two parts, one ripped and one converted.

So. Can anyone recommend an good and quick DVD ripper? I need to move all my movies in to the loft to create space but I still have A LOT to rip before I can.

I spent much of last year ripping mine, and after trying many free decrypters (I think that's what they're called) I purchased AnyDVD and used it in conjunction with Handbrake. Very pleased with the results until I realised I had ripped all my movies in nothing more than 2.0.

I have to do them again using pass thru in Handbrake or something to get the surround back...they all sound crap.

I really should have read up more before I started...

I have started doing exactly the same. Handbrake is so much better at making smaller files. I am still trying to find the best settings for video as a lot of my rips are coming out a bit pixely.

What should I use to convert mkv's to burn to DVD?  I tried something a month or so ago but it just took ages and never did work.  On a DVD9 I think I could fit 4 videos and that's about what I was looking for.  Anyway, any suggestions?

VSO's ConvertXtoDVD.  Jim kindly lent me his copy & it's excellent.  They all take ages though.

I'm using the defaults as I'm not that fussy (and/or can't be bothered to fiddle).

The default settings make DVD's about 200MB to 300MB bigger than the settings I am using now (average bitrate of 1500)

The pictures not bad but not as good as a lot of the jim lad copies of other films I have.
