I'm thinking this /shouldn't/ be real difficult. But I take my laptop to work and there is software I'd like to have start when I'm here, and software I use at home that I'd not like to start.

For example: WHS starts normally and has a task icon regardless if I'm home or work. Is there a way to do some kind of if (connected to work network) don't run this etc?

You just need to use 'activities'.

(in KDE 4)

You rock. But someone I don't think just installing this is going to get me what I'd like.

From having messed with Ubuntu all weekend I would almost bet everything I own on that. I can't even get the new ubuntu to choose the correct resolution on boot so I can use it on my tv! Fucking pretend os!

(Yeah, don't install that, it's buggy as all fuck, especially if you set it as shell)

Ubuntu is shit.

But yes, Linux (wish any desktop really) could do what you're asking quite easily. Except run that windows software well, obviously :Y

LOL, ok well I will think of how I can word this query for the Goog and do some checking when I get some time today.

Sir, your service is well appreciated! Especially knowing the addiction to a certain game you have!

I'm trying to give Salem up. It's far too much of a time sink. I'll play it on release.

No way you're going to get this to work on windows :Y

I know! I'm really hoping PB sees this and says "Simple, just do this and this."

Simple, just use your company's laptop at work and your personal laptop at home.

:'-D

I don't have a company laptop. Just an desktop. I really don't need to bring my laptop to work but we have separate networks for the companies and I use my laptop to work on the VPN.

(But yeah, IIRC there is a way to detect network name in a script, but I can't recall the details and not at a proper computer right now.)

Well what would be better is pressing 1 for work 2 for home wouldn't it? I don't know at what point the programs load or the network connects. I'm thinking you'd need to specify that well before the point the network is detected.

If your personal laptop is screwed up whilst helping the company to generate money, will they compensate you for the loss/repair?

If you need a laptop or extra machine to do your job correctly, get one officially, paid for by the company.

Pressing a key is easy, but if network doesn't load soon enough then it can still be any key (just to make it wait).

Depends how long that is, and what things you need to start.

I really think I want to figure out how to install Linux on my phone and use that as my computer. It's the future man!
