Does anyone have any experience with doing styled HTML emails with Gmail?

I've got emails that are working (almost) okay with Outlook and Yahoo! Mail, but GMail just seems to ignore it all.

Possibly some obvious solution, but if so I'm not spotting it.

Any ideas?

Stop sending HTML emails. Failing that, stop trying to use CSS in HTML emails. It is poorly and inconsistently supported by clients. It's like browsers in 2000, except without even Javascript to do browser detection and redirect Opera users to goatse.cx.

Actually, it's got over 80% support in almost all clients.

Gmail specifically do not support anything other than inline styles (no <style> or <link> tags allowed)
Lotus Notes only supports font related stuff.
Eudora has/had no CSS support at all (next version will be Thunderbird based)

But other than those and bloody Microsoft's crap, there's an average of 88% support of CSS in email clients:

AOL, Entourage, Hotmail, MacMail, New Yahoo, Old Yahoo, Outlook 2003, Thunderbird all have between 81% and 100% support.
