I enjoyed the movie in a superficial glossy-images-and-thrills kind of way, but yes, not much by way of originality apart from the lead character. He's quite interestingly drawn. I haven't read the book, but I'm told it's very good, especially in the way Ender is portrayed. The author, Orson Scott Card, seems to be a revolting individual: racist, profoundly homophobic, advocate of violence, somewhat to the right of Breitbart.
