I'm finally getting the hang of this bow and managed to kill a few pirates with it on the storm the beached freighter and get some radio code bullshit mission. So that felt good.

I ran into it pretty early on. Had to go somewhere to speak to a guy, came across a camp in the middle of the road and spent 20 minutes carefully sneaking around, taking them out until the camp was empty. Drove round the corner and spoke to the guy I had to see. Drove back again and literally less than 10 minutes since I'd been back at the camp, it was fully repopulated again.

I don't like doing things that turn out to be completely pointless 10 minutes later, so I removed the game and didn't play it any more after that.

Hasn't happened to me so far in FC3, except whenever/wherever there's a firefight, more pirates drive up in jeeps in several waves, with brief pauses between. Well, I just did the destroy the weapons cache mission, and instead of hanging around and cleaning up the lumber yard (at which point it's officially 'captured'?), I took off and when I looked behind me it seems to have been repopulated.

Actually it was pretty weird because (I thought) you're supposed to go in quiet and disable the alarms before the pirates have a chance to set them off. I tried to do that, but was spotted right away (thanks to my shit bow skills), they set off the alarm and I had a huge gunfight on my hands, expecting all the while for the mission to fail. But no, I blew up the cache and that was that.

Oh no, FC3 was fine for it. I completed that and found it pretty good. Not the absolute best game I've ever played, but much better than FC2.

Still enjoying FC3. It feels like the pirate bots are getting smarter as [my] time progresses. I gave up on the bow and suppressed pistol, and switched to suppressed SMG. Not as quiet, but way easier and more effective. The bow seems terribly underpowered, like a kiddie toy. I used to shoot a real, 40-lb. compound bow, not super-powerful but it didn't have nearly the drop-off. The story missions continue to be meh, though the rescue + escape from pirate prison was ok. Too many cut scenes. Open world stuff is great though.

Chug along to FC4. It's the best and the brightest.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. 4 is actually on sale atm, but I better hold off lest ye keeper of the household budget takes a steel-edged ruler to my knuckles (besides, I bet it'll be cheaper next year).


I just watched the cia agent cut scenes -- SoF-grade garbage.

Missuses with rulers are never to be ignored and there's loads of playery goodness to be had from FC3.

But when the moment is right, you won't regret buying 4. Pick of the bunch IMO, though I do like scenery & stories.

Where did you see 4 on sale? Seems to be back at full price on HB and Steam. :C

Bah, the link doesn't go to the product page, a quick search shows me the EMEA version, currently on at £10.79 (I suspect the US version to have larger gun models, bigger noises and a yee-ha button).

Changing $12 into £ comes out at £9.09. Not a huge amount of difference, but it's more than I want to pay for a game. :C

Stuff I did this weekend:

- killed a bear with a shotgun (3 blasts, mauled in between)

- killed two heavies by shooting them in the back of the head with a sniper rifle

- killed another heavy up close and personal with two grenades and about 50 AR rounds

- captured a bunch of forts

- killed several manhunt dudes with the knife

- got a an F1 AR, which is almost as as good as a sniper rifle (except it uses 3-round bursts)

- got an MP5K SMG

- all my guns are now suppressed, except the shotgun

- ran jumped and climbed all over hell's half-acre.

I'm fucking exhausted!

Remind me, are the heavies the guys in the welding mask helmets and wearing body armour?

Yeah they are. Apparently some rare ones (later in game?) have full helmets you can't shoot from behind.

Where is it? Sneaking up on these bots is too easy. Also, they're near-sighted AF.

You're probably using it already, by the sound of it - the crouch button (ctrl, I think, without sparking it up to check).

Your description sounded so gung-ho, I thought maybe you were going in with all guns blazing.

PS. Can't remember if it was implemented in FC3, but by 4 Ubisoft introduced a menu choice to re-baddie all the enemy outposts.  Adds a lot of playability.
