Radiator me do

I realise this may be a bit of a long shot, but I know some people on here have done house renovations, or are in the trades, so thought it might be worth a try.

I'm redecorating our bedroom and want to replace the radiator that's in there. It's 2170 x 400mm so is a bit of a beast, however it's a very old single model and radiates heat approx 1cm from its surface (it does get red hot). I'm looking for a more modern one, at least a double, but 'cos I'm rubbish with plumbing I want to get a replacement that fits the width of the current feed pipes so I don't have to bugger about moving them. That way I can turn the valves off, remove the rad and patch n' paint behind it properly, then fit the new one.

Anyone know of anywhere I could get a rad that size? I did find a listing on gumtree, but the person selling it is down in the Midlands and will only deliver within 20 miles.

Edit - I've found a radiator that's 2200mm wide, hopefully there'll be a little play in the pipes.

Glad we could help.

You'll need to be careful disconnecting the old one. It will be full black sludge that will make every attempt to be all over your floor.

Indeed, I'm ever grateful for the multitude of responses and unending advice. :J

Aye, I've come a cropper of the black sludge before, well at least my carpet has. And it wasn't even me doing it then... the plumber we got was a bit of a lummox and when he was taking an old radiator down from the attic spilt the sludge remnants on the stairs carpet.  :C

I've taken rads off the wall for decorating behind, but have always replaced the existing one, so with fitting a new one I want to get a match as close as possible 'cos I don't want to have to bend or shift the pipes any more than I have to. Lots of towels and old paint trays are your best friend when taking them off.

And take the opportunity to put fresh corrosion inhibitor in the new radiator.

Well, it's easier than faffing around in the attic if you have an open system and much easier if you have a closed system.
