RTS me do

For traditional RTS there's Planetary Annihilation: TITANS and Company of Heroes 2. They're both well regarded but I can't vouch for them personally because I fucking hate traditional RTS.

There's also the ANNO games if you're in the mood for something excessively German.

For something with a more HOMMy/4xy lean there's Age of Wonders III which is pretty cool. I need to play more of that.

If you're open to something a bit weird then I'd *strongly* recommend Creeper World III or its (kinda) sequel Particle Fleet: Emergence. The former is amazing and the latter is probably even better but I've not played enough to be sure yet. They're essentially RTSes where the enemy is a fluid.

Kinda stretching it for RTS, more of a management game (but in the same vein as Prison Architect), Rimworld is *very* good. It's great at generating interesting emergent situations.

Also Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II (and Stellaris but it needs to be fleshed out) are *technically* RTSes so I'll mention them cos they're great.

Going to try Planetary, then look at the other non-traditionals you mentioned. Not really sure what I'm after - something between a management/economic and rts I think.

Rimworld would fit that bill. But it's fairly slow paced. Maybe XCOM? Not what you're asking for exactly but might scratch that same itch. XCOM2 (which is better) is in the current Humble Monthly for $12.

So Planetary... I can see why people like it, but I can also see exactly how it's going to go. I'm bored just thinking about playing it.

Rimworld next.

My friend had a game where everyone but the sculptor died. Sculptor literally couldn't do anything but sculpt, not even cleaning, so he was depressed, living in his own filth and making sculptures, trading them for food whenever a party passed by. Eventually a new settler arrived and... it was another sculptor who could only sculpt. Bandits attacked and he managed to capture one of them, eventually getting her to join his settlement and... yeah, turned out to be another sculptor.

Amazingly he kept them alive, in their own filth, and eventually someone useful joined and he turned it around. Was pretty cool.

:'D

Will try again tonight, it certainly caught my interest in the brief shot I had.

Although one of the games I borrowed from Jim recently seems to have come bundled with a load of malware (at least I'm assuming that's the source) :(

It's the closest game I've played to Dwarf Fortress with a decent GUI. It's pretty cool.

Oh, shit, I totally forgot Factorio. I'm pretty sure that would appeal to you.

And yeah, that's probably where the malware came from :((

That looks like ants running around a motherboard. If you squish them or leave them, it's gonna short out.

Poor ants :'S

Reminds me of the time Andy Black had termites living in his monitor and for the longest time thought it was a graphics problem. I *think* it was Andy, at least.

I found where mice had set up housekeeping in an old powerpc 8100. They got in 'cause I had sawed a big hole in it for an ac-powered cooling fan.

I was thinking the other day that an Ant Colony sim would be awesome. Meant to check if there was one, but then I forgot.

Yeah, was wondering if anything more modern was about. I'd google, but I'm too busy watching all my colonists slowly die. This is a sad game.

She appeared on the horizon one day, stark bollock naked and being chased by a gang of crazed raiders. She begged us for help, and help we did. We killed her oppressors, healed her wounds, gave her food and shelter. She decided to join our colony, helping out where she could. Poor lass was only a kid, 16 years old and God knows what horrors she'd been through.

Then one day I got greedy. I thought I could take down that Thrumbo and make a fortunes selling its fur and horns.

She fought bravely. Tooth and nail. Right to the end. The bitter, bloody end.

I'm sorry Rebecca. Rest in peace.

P. S. Also sorry I never got round to making you any clothes. Complete oversight on my part. My bad.
