I intend to follow Manthorp's sage advice, become very right-wing and take up saying things like 'I'm not a racist but...' My beloved has many plans for me. I favour daytime TV, park benches and cider.

I still have to see many people I work with and I have no intention of making their life harder after I leave as several of them are friends. My esteemed employer has stated that it's too costly to train people or take on a contractor in one of my areas of expertise where I'm a single point of failure so it's going to be tough on them anyway as they try to work out the internals of ancient technology that still has its tendrils in deep.

As for burning bridges, well, I stopped doing anything I didn't want to do about 3 months back.

It all feels very odd.

Indeed. It's how T S Eliot would have opened The Waste Land had it been called The Really Good Land and not The Waste Land and not begun April is the cruellest month...

For the removal of doubt, I'm 60.

I'm not sure how it happened. One moment I was lying in a cot shitting in my nappy and the next I was an old man. Of course, many people say that paying for that sort of thing when you're 59 is perverse, but I say  'It's my life and my money'.

I'm 58. A spring chicken by comparison.
