Yup. Load of shite.

PC Specialist have the parts,  but won't sell them to me because I don't have a PC Specialist order number for my laptop (was bought by my insurance company, via an agent, via ebuyer, so there /is/ no PC Specialist order number).

Hoping this one turns up, but i've had no further communication from the 'shop' beyond an 'order confirmed' email.

Paid with paypal so if it comes to it I can initiate a dispute there. Hopefully.

It's bad enough having to thread the bastard things through the hinge and then reassemble it without the agony of getting hold of one.

Aye, it was a bit of a cunt getting the old one out. Had to unscrew one corner of the mother board (just needed about 0.5mm more wriggle room), which meant unplugging the top panel (keyboard, track pad, power siwtch) which was 3 or 4 far too fucking short ribbon cables. Easy enough to get off, but an utter bastard to get back on.

If you ever run into that sort of thing again let me know.  I'd be happy to reship something out to you.

Well the one in Birmingham never arrived - place wouldn't answer any emails or phone calls so I requested a Paypal refund. They issued a refund straight away, by which time I'd found one on Aliexpress (a bit cheaper, too, at £30ish) so I ordered that.

A week later the Birmingham place emailed me and said they now had it in stock if I wanted to reorder it. I ignored the bastards.

The one from aliexpress was marked as dispatched within a couple of days and I even got a tracking number! Then the merciless Chinapost took over and it's spend the last 6 weeks bouncing between the airport, customs, security and the seller - back and forth, back and forth...

Contacted seller and they gave me a refund.

So I had an other search on google, this time I found a place in Belgium that reckoned they had it in stock ready to sell - so I broke out Goolge Translate and attempted to order. The site was weird and kept stopping responding randomly, but I persevered and managed to get it to accept my order on Wednesday. It just turned up in the post, and for the grand total price (including postage) of 12 euros!

Just have to fit the fucker now, but if anyone needs spare laptop parts I can heartily recommend http://www.shscomputer.be/ .

And it's now fitted and works perfectly! I'd forgotten how nice Full HD on a 15 inch screen is. Looking at my 22" 1680 x 1050 monitor I've been using instead hurts my eyes now. Especially black text on white background, it's horrendous.

Glad to see the end to this saga.

Dunno if I could go back to 15" (NJ). MrsD. 'inherited' my 17" aperture-grill CRT, still beautifully sharp and colorful after ~12-years, which she drives at 1024x768 (I ran it at 1280x960).

Yeah my eyes are a bit confused at the moment. Having spent the last few months using an external monitor that's physically bigger but with lower resolution.

Hurts to look at big screen now because the fidelity is so low (vertical parts of black text often look red/orange because PIXELS).

Hurts to look at the small screen because although it's absolutely pin sharp, everything's bloody tiny!

Is this where Windows needs some sort of better DPI scaling?

I have DPI scaling turned on to make text readable on the wee screen. Would be nice if Windows handled it better and scaled all apps, rather than relying on apps to recognise that there's scaling and adapt to it. I'm sure it'll get better with time, though, especially with all the SYNERGIES of MULTI PLATFORM.

Not it's open to normal users, but Android handles this very well.

I've changed the LCD density settings on my last few phones. Default settings on my Nexus 5 make it feel like a Fisher Price phone. Changing the density value massively improves things.
