Tasker

I think a few of use Tasker for various things.

What do you use it for?

My current main use is for my phone to do various things when it connects/disconnects to my car stereo via bluetooth. Kill an app, start an app, open Waze, do these only when it's a certain time (driving to work).

Currently using Tasker to switch my heating on in the morning. It wakes my phone, turns my WiFi on if needed then goes to my heating web interface.

There doesn't seem to be a good way to wake up the phone unlocked with Tasker. The best way I've found is to place a call, wait a couple of seconds then end the call. Doesn't seem a very good way to do it but it works.

wake the phone unlocked? Don't you just set your home zone in Android so it never bothers auto-locking there?

I assume that just disables the pin of whatever lock you have. I only use the slide unlock and if I use Tasker to wake my phone it stays at the slide unlock screen.

Oh I see. So if you're out and about your phone is unsecure? Tut!

I have no idea about the thing though, sorry.

Yup. No security on here. I can't be bothered with a pin or anything.

Seems silly that there's no way to wake the phone to the home screen. If I try to go to an URL from the lock screen nothing happens. And it didn't work this morning after the call/end call thing so we had a cold house.

You don't want a cold house!

I've got a new remote/wireless relay to fit to the boiler to change from the arduino+receiver+relay combo.

Right but what you're doing here is avoiding using the simple timer function of your heating by some overcomplicated kludge phone thing involving two apps but at the root of it is your phone's clock, ie a simple timer... I say you pretty much are asking for a cold house!

Possibly a better idea

Create a PHP file that has a PHP exec command in it to run a script that turns on the heating.

Tasker can run file/http open commands, point at that address.

You may even have the possibility to do that already with your web interface and tasker.

Just checked, it's the HTTP Get task.

So if you have something like this

http://ipaddress/homeautomation.php?command=turnonheating

You could use tasker to "open" that address.

Haha. Yeah, I think that about sums it up perfectly :)

Does that work with the screen off? If so that would definitely work.

My web server does that yeah, so http://ip.net/boiler/index.html?param=heatingon (or heatingon90 for 1.5hrs of heating (or heatingon13 if you're feeling unlucky))

Yeah, screen off is fine. All in the background, you just need to set the trigger.

Excellent. I'll try that out later. Thanks :)

I've got home screen widgets to run some tasker tasks. One being an "All Off" task that turns off all of my remotely controllable lights. Saves me delving into the webui

I looked for tasker in play store and there's lots of apps with same name. Which one is the real one? :/

It doesn't seem to be working. I think it's because I have a password on the site. In Chrome I can add it to the URL but the HTTP get in Tasker doesn't seem to register it.

Handy. How many wireless devices do you have? And is your new relay just triggered straight from the Pi?

Slightly changed my task and it seems to be working.

Turn WiFi on
Wait 30 seconds
Wake device
Wait 3 seconds
Call 150
Wait 3 seconds
End call
Wait 3 seconds
Browse to URL and turn heating on for 90 minutes

Hopefully it will work in the morning and we'll have a nice warm house.
