Also, while no-doubt linux is less shitty with (lack of) licenses and what not, you could avoided wasting all that time if you'd RTFM. Or even just the instructions on the upgrade page.

Or they could have designed a better installer. Because NOBODY BUT MATT RTFM  T_T

It should have spelled all that out on the installer splash screen. "Existing Windows x detected. To upgrade to Windows 10, please reboot into Windows x and run setup.exe from installation media"

I assume most people have used the Win 10 popup though?

Probably.

Anyway it's all installed, looking pretty slick and running as well as a C2D can run anything, which isn't super fast on a good day.

I'm disappointed they recycled the old IE icon for the (allegedly new) "Edge".

I'm thinking something like a straight razor on a throat, or a cliff with a bunch of lemmings would have shown more imagination.

C2Ds are alright, i'm sure some on here are still using them as their main PC. Maybe. At least in 64bit mode, anyway.

My desktop still has a Core 2 Quad in it. Not that it's been switched on in a long time, mind. Might try and upgrade it to windows 10 :C

Mine has apparently hung up at 82% of the install process. I'm not hugely surprised, the fucking computer seems to struggle to do things like shut down and restart without having to have the power button held in for five seconds at the moment. Hmm.

So what's the verdict? My laptop hasn't told me I can upgrade yet.

Mines still downloading, but tracy's is upgraded and the xbox one streaming is pretty cool.

Edit: and flaky as hell over WiFi.

You don't need to wait, go to that link I posted up thread and kick it off.

I'm now trying to install 8 over the top of 8.1 because a Repair install won't work either for me :(

Yes that's true. Thought I'd check if it's worth it before diving in with the upgrade.

I'm just waiting for the usability reports to come in.

But since you lot don't seem to think that Win8 sucks shit out of a monkey's butt-crack, I think I'll have to look further afield. Win7 seems about as good as Windows has ever been TBH.

The worst thing about Windows 8 IMO is the tiles shit. 10 makes that easy to get rid of. Otherwise it all seems like a pretty bog standard de. To my surprise it kept ie 11 on board.

Didn't like 8/8.1 (well, I didn't mind it once it was set to boot to desktop and classic start menu was installed).

Only had 10 for about 10 minutes, and so far it seems pretty slick. Cortana is being a dick, tells me I need to change some settings (the LET Microsoft SPY ON ME settings), but when I click to open the settings page it opens then closes again immediately.

Actually, can't get into settings at all. Very annoying.

No problems here.

I did start to download the ISO but I just noticed that the Service Host process is using the network connection so probably downloading the update too.

I can get control panel, but not into PC Settings, the app store or anything related to that stuff (personalise desktop, windows update etc.) It's a bit annoying as I need to change some security settings in PC Settings in order to get my uni email to work.

I've run SFC, which reports there's a bunch of corrupt files that it can't fix. Was going to do a windows reset thing, but that's in PC Settings. (fail)
