Insurgency

This is fooking hard, and I'm only playing with bots atm. Fun though.

I'm really into it. Don't like the Player V Player much but the Co Op stuff is awesome.

I'm still learning the weapons and the maps (vs bots). Spotting enemies and getting the drop on them is really difficult. There's always one behind you. I've only just started to get more kills than casualties.

I've played online for an hour or two, and I really like it. Mostly been playing the escort a VIP mission. I've only had a handful of kills, but it's satisfying when you do.

Every now and again you find yourself stuck in a firefight that really echos the helmet cam vids that come out of warzones. In terms of gameplay, I think it's getting on for about as realistic as you can get without it stopping being fun.

Aye, in the games I've played there's been a total lack of maniacal jumping to dodge bullets making it seems a lot more realistic.

I'm yet to get to grips with the different classes and weapons, I haven't played against bots yet, so might have a blast tonight offline and test it out. That said, I've been playing Pharaoh a bit recently and am halfway through building a huge pyramid complex. Might have to finish that first.  :-Y

The bots on both sides make rudimentary attempts at tactical coordination, so it's pretty chaotic. After you've died (as I have many, many, many times) you get to watch from a bot pov. They apparently aim about 6-feet over the heads of their targets, when they aren't scurrying about pell-mell like cockroaches in the light. Must try that and see if it improves my score.

He'll still be facing the wrong way, with the opponent still behind him. :-{)

I suspect you know this and will no doubt point out you are being facetious. I also suspect, and this is no way related, that you'd do well should you ever appear on a TV game show.

There's a homeless guy who does that for real, semi-famous around here. I see him once or twice a year on Bloor Street.

Eh? That was before your time, whipper-snapper. :@

And it was absolutely a combination of the first time playing a game with atypical mechanics, no weapon choice, and no time to practice beforehand due to shitty overheating servers. :@

If you want proof, attend the next meat with a computer running your choice of Unreal Tournament, Firearms, or Counter-Strike 1.3 and I'll coat the floor with fragments of your shattered smile. :@

It'll take a lot more than a little wiggle to save you.

What was your preferred weapon in Unreal? I always liked the ripper in the first tournament game, then favoured the flak cannon in 2004.

Which one of those games had the option to feign death, where you went prone on floor. That was an ace tactic.

It'll take a lot more than retrospective editing of your posts to save /you/!

In the original, it was probably the shock rifle. I played a lot of InstaGib too, which is of course enhanced shock rifle. Also having grenades as secondary to the pistol. I did like the ripper - a great sound and being able to shoot around corners, though in some maps it was a bit overpowered.

And yes, it was the original UT that had the option to feign death.

UT2003/4 were pants. The vehicle stuff is really a completely different game that, whilst it can be fun in its own right, just isn't as good as a decent foot-based fragfest.

In UT3 I favour the projectile weapons - RPG, flak, and bio - I find it satisfying to correctly infer where the victim is going to be. Got some community map packs that expand the rather meagre selection it comes with, so got both curated community-made ones and some ports of the originals, nice and nostalgic.

A simple clarification, nothing more.
