NIC Issues

I have an old XP machine that is connected to a lab microscope.  It was recently moved and now it's a fuck up.  When a good, KNOWN working cable is plugged in the computer still reports it's unplugged.  I thought it was lying and checked for an IP, but there was none.

I then installed a USB NIC and the same damned thing is happening!  At this point I'm assuming it's a software issue, I ran Winsock fix on it but the result is the same.  Has anyone ever seen this and figured out how to fix it?

Yeah I think I do, are you counting on the old "3rd times a charm" rule?

An xp laptop I use at work regularly reports its network "unplugged", when though it's plugged in and working. I ignore it.

That's why I checked for an IP.  It reported media unplugged doing an ipconfig.

A USB Wifi adapter works, case closed and on to the next!
