Exchange Email Issue

Definitely not my issue to sort, but wondering if anyone else running exchange servers had seen this.

Emails can be sent but not received. Even internally emails aren't being received. But I can send emails fine (tested with my personal accounts).

I think our IT guy is on holiday (fail)

What version of exchange are you running? We had a similar issue here last week (on ex2010) with a receive connector not allowed to process anonymous mail. So Mimecast couldn't get anything to us and created a load of bounce backs.

That doesn't explain internal mail though - can you try restarting the SMTP/Transport services?

Do you use any sort of 3rd party spam tools? Every so often our GFI mail essentials garbles itself and stops email flow leaving us to have to restart the services for it.

That could explain it if they are using the same receive connector for everything.  Not sure if that's possible though.

I personally have no access to check settings or restart anything.

We do use Demon MailDefender, could that be fucking things up?

There was also some "maintenance" over the weekend, but things were fine yesterday and earlier in the morning.

With Exchange anything is possible!  I sure hope the maintenance wasn't to upgrade to 2013!

Certainly possible, is that an on site tool or is mail defender a hosted service?

Can't see the receive connectors changing if things have been working this morning, sounds more like a service that's borked. Don't suppose you'd know if there've been any changes to the firewall at all?

I have that happen from time to time, it's like a service gets stuck or something.

Will you accept payment in salt? I bought 27 tonnes today so I have a bit to go round.

Well, don't eat it all at once young man. I wonder how much brine that would make? You could go into the pickling business.

I think we should build an ocean!

And thanks, I think, for the curly thingy!

You should mock one up in Minecraft, I think it's as well to model these big projects first.

Curly Wurly's are ace. Did you not get one in the chocolate haul Mouse sent a while back?

Are you talking about those spare swine parts you pass off to foreigners as delicacy?  If so then yes, remember my dog wouldn't even eat them?

I think that's a good idea, but I was thinking of mocking up the interface in Visual Basic and then coding the wave algorithm in COBOL.

Curly Wurlys are chocolate coated chewy toffee and look like this:

You're thinking of pork scratchings. <shudders>

Me personally, no (since I'm not in IT!). No idea if/what someone did. Outlook did disconnect for a short while so I think something was rebooted/restarted.
