Teh Podcast - This Weekend? (Sunday) All those who wanna host sa

Ok folks,
Nobody fall off their chair but how about we do this sucker!?

Depending on what people wanna hear i would suggest we make this a general geek podcast.

We could follow a loose map of the forum folders i.e Music Film Tv / Games / General (whats going on in the world etc)

Would suggest Skype followed by audacity.

I am home alone this weekend so would have time to host and edit as required.

Who would like to take part? You could either come on for the full cast or if there is an area of which you are an expert (say caer for photography etc) then you could just drop in and record that bit and we will splice it up later.

Time I would suggest for recording would be either Saturday night with beer or Sunday morning with script !

Basic level of involvement would include helping to organise a running order, suggest items to includes, topics to cover etc - little bit of internet research unless you are really good at winging it...

So who's in?

I would quite like to be able to do something like this. I'm not very good at speaking (Physically, that is. I'm generally good at formulating thoughts and sentences but not at getting them out of my face correctly) but I'd like to give it a try, if I'm terrible I wouldn't feel bad about ducking out. Games and music would be my topics of choice but I could probably contribute a bit to general discussions (i.e. anything that's not a specialist subject like photography).

If you/we do one, might I request you avoid my least favourite podcast feature:

• "coming up on this week's podcast..."

Put this in the text description, sure, but it feels so artificial and unnecessary to discuss what you will be talking about in the near future in the actual podcast.

That is what is referred to in the industry as "signposting"

You do the podcast and at the end you finish then do your intro trying to recall what you have just withered on about :)

Also, having a shitty five hour jingle at the start and end - very annoying, :C

Ok, but I still find it annoying. Either I already know what will be covered in the episode, because I've read the show notes, or I don't actually need to know because I'm a subscriber and the podcast has a history of being interesting/entertaining so I'm willing to listen anyway.

I'm only saying this because I think a Tehcast has the potential to be good, and I want it to be something I'd enjoy listening to :)

I agree. I also think making it too formal/trying to be too professional would kill it. There's little more embarrassing to listen to/watch that amateurs trying to mimick professionals. Should just be a relaxed and informal chat, where someone is tasked with keeping it vaguely on topic or interesting (sacrificing on-topicness for interesting/entertainingness).

Aye, and the thing is, the amateurness can be a strength in its own right, and like you say, nothing wrong with going off-topic if it's in an interesting direction. Hell, most threads in this forum do that.

Oscar has stepped up?

Xen, Ken, and MenMouse will all do it.

I'll also volunteer Kenny & Kos to do a drunken Scottish rambling segment.

That should be enough people for at least one episode?

Going to suggest we try and do this tonight ? Are people around from about 7:30 till say 9pm do a quick meeting 7:30 till 8 then record for an hour?

Oz does that time suit you?

I have the house to myself tonight and can drink beer. Tomorrow would have to be in the am.

Cheers.

I'll put my name up for it if the others have suddenly found a social life on a Saturday evening.

Sorry, but I'm out tonight, and tomorrow night. But I feel that there should be some kind of regular scheduling of this, so that at some point I can turn up drunk on something inappropriate* and babble at you.

*I've just spent just over a week in Spain drinking with people who like cheap Spanish sparkling wines of all tints, Spanish cider (which is amazing) and cheap Spanish non-sparkling wines of all tints. It's a whole different kind of drunkeness for me.
