I'm too annoyed to comment sensibly, but it seems to be getting more and more clear that Google really doesn't understand the Internet. :/

This comes as a surprise to you? Schmidt long ago revealed that he cares not for people's privacy.

I'm annoyed cos when I was tidying up on Tuesday I found a webcam and was looking forward to hanging out (Y,J) on G+ :(

No, not really. But in all teh excitement about G+ I forgot why I'm fundamentally suspicious of google :|

I'm in a bit of limbo regarding it... I'm opposed to how Google are playing this (there's even claims they've censored their own staff who were being critical of the policy, which is definitely evil), but can't quite bring myself to disconnect from the things people are sharing.

I really wish diaspora or whoever would get off their arses and do something useful, even if only so the mass exodus would give Google a slap in the face and make them think again.

I've deleted it already.

I'm not kneejerk about the privacy thing, I'm not for (in the abstract) personal privacy. What bothers me is that their approach stifles creativity and, as Pete says, goes against the culture of the internet.

The idea of having an identity rank isn't bad in itself, it could be useful and helpful. It's the fact that they want to profit from it and that there are sinister organisations who will put it to sinister uses. If the information they harvest was genuinely public that would be great.

I guess the thing to do is just make a gmail account from scratch, not tied to anything else at all, use a false (but realistic) name and use that to sign up for G+.
