Looks most like a D3000, which is bottom of the range.

 

Is that still going to have better low-light performance than a decent compact?

 

Well, unless it is a special police-only version that just uses the same shell but has better internals.

Aye, I read some time ago about only certain digital cameras being used in the US as their courts require some kind of hash/checksum thing to prove that the image hasn't been tampered with - and only somtehing like the 1DS did it back then. Can't remember what it was called though :(

I dunno, which pictures are you looking at? None of the ones on TBP have police using cameras in them.

Oh, yeah I see it now. Didn't even notice it at first. I dunno, it's kinda hard to tell what it is, although it looks more like a D90:


And he seems to be looking through the viewfinder with his left eye.

Oh and even a bottom-end SLR is going to have way better low-light image quality than a compact, just because of the sensor size.

I use my left eye for the viewfinder. What's wrong with you?

I initial instinct was a D90, but there appears to be a ~45° angle on the viewfinder/flash bit, which seems to match the D3000.

But looking more closely, the button to the left of the LED does look more like it's where the D90's info button is compared to the D3000's delete button.


If I see a Mr B 610 wandering around I'm gonna ask him. :)
