But cant some geek nerd somehow somwhere. write a program that enables a PCs NIC when the user is sending data and disable NIC when it is not?
Security.
If something is completely off, it isnt accessable to hackers.
But it wouldn't work.
The wya you describe it, you would send a request to a website (say google) and then shut down the NIC before you got a response.
What's a responce?
How long would it stay enabled? What if you wanted to download a 100MB patch or program?
And most importantly, while you're keeping it online for a 'response', what's to stop hackers getting at it then?
