Restaurants in Sheffield

It's my girlfriends birthday this coming Friday, so I am taking her out for a meal.

I don't really know what restaurants are good in Sheffield, and which are complete and utter bollocks. I guess this is to Mr Dyl, Greg and Pete.

What's good and what's not?

I guess something on Eccy Road or the City Centre would be preferable.

Thank You.

I saw a place on Eccy Road which was called Caffé Uno which looked very nice from outside at night. Heard of it?

It's a chain, it's pretty nice, very suitable for a meal with a girlfriend.

For me, going out for a meal = going out for a curry, pretty much, I'm afraid. And along those lines, I'd reccommend, above most others, Jaflong on Crookes. Butler's Balti House ( by the university roundabout) used to be excellent, but I haven't been there for a few years so I can no longer vouch for it. Though that new one opposite Netto's in Walkley is fairly nice, and Indian Chef is sometimes good but a bit inconsistent, Jaflong still remains unbeaten in that part of the world as far as I'm concerned. If you were looking for a school dining hall feel, Kashmir Curry Centre is still up to its old high standards, so I'm told. Though I imagine that you're not.

I know a couple of Italian restaurants - La Civetta in Hillsborough (no use to you, I suppose) is very nice, though it's got a lot more expensive over the last few years, and Maria's on Crookes is thoroughly pleasant also.

I'll let you know if I remember anywhere else.

There's a nice romantic little place on Ecclesall road (directly opposite the Berkely centre) called Trattoria Romana or something like that.

It's very romantic and nice.

Sheffield scared me. Loads of people hanging about in corners in the dark with hoodies up all hunched over.

I didn't go far.

Also, Google maps told me that Weston Park Museum was completely in the wrong place and I got lost.

Sheffield doesn't scare me one bit. I feel a damn sight safer here than I did at home.

Is that Jaflong place still good?

Also, anymore suggestions? (yes, I know it is many a month later now!)

Nirmal's

189-193 Glossop Rd, Sheffield, UK - England S10 2GW · 114-272-4054

Amazing.

By far the best Indian meal I have ever had, also the other 12 or so people I was with agreed.

I had one from them the other night and it was good. If you're up for eating out or collecting, though, Royal Spice on South Road is worth visiting.

Probably too late now! But I thought Takapuna Bar & Restaurant was a nice place.

Takapuna
52 - 54 West Street
Sheffield
S1 4EP

They have live comedy upstairs on a Wednesday too.

We actually went to Jaflong and it was damn good, not that expensive either considering the amount we ordered.
