however, I have only just noticed that this thread is in the games folder. perhaps I should start my own non-games humble things thread, thus avoiding competition for your own so-humble-it's-socially-awkward humble thing

Yes, there's a thing called the Humble Bundle where for a very low price you get a bunch of games. Often, the bunch will include one or two you already own, so it's nice to give it away afterwards.
