Timelapse-me-do

I was gonna say, you don't need much resolution for video - I think a 4GB card holds like 4000 frames at just-over-full-HD res.

Android ICS / Cyanogenmod (I have no idea if it's a stock feature) records directly to MP4, so no manual stitching of JPEG images here :Y

1fps at 1080p (actually seems to be 1920x1088 which is a quirk of HTC camera apparently) created a 77MB video file, which I thought was rather good.

I'm off to Northampton on Saturday which should take me about an hour from here. That should create a ~300MB MP4 by my calculation.

8 Miles in 4 Minutes took longer than 4 minutes. Should I feel gypped, or thrilled that I got more than I bargained for?

And was that really timelapse or sped-up video? Only there were times where movement was jittery, which I wouldn't expect from timelapse.

I mentioned in my first post that they are video speeded (sped?) up. There is some realy good stuff in this thread now. I love it.

So you did, but that was a month and a half ago and my memory isn't that good.

Who would like to watch a timelapse of a european roadtrip (eurotrip :@ ) once I've put it all together?

Over 61000 photos. One every 2 seconds. Probably over 40mins long :|

Me. But make it shorter/faster.

Yeah, it's definitely too long, but not sure how to do it otherwise. 2 photos a second is essential. I could maybe double it to 48fps, but it could end up far too fast.

Do a few samples and see what looks good. Otherwise, slit it into multiple videos.between certain landmarks or whatever.

I've already generated each section as separate videos (actually watching them now on my TV). I was going to split them if my YouTube limit was 15mins but I can upload unlimited length.

I'm tempted to put up a Part1,2,3 etc version up and the full length.

Needs a backing track of some sort too. And all editing together with some text and other shiz.

Did something interesting happen for every bit of the 33 hours you were recording for?

Or is this video going to contain 39 minutes of road?

It'd be pointless if I just faded it in and out of slightly interesting bits.

The fact is it's a fucking massive timelapse and unless I show it all it's a waste.

(and yes, pretty much all road)

That's fantastic. Watching the sky is mesmerizing. Did you do anything regarding registrations? especially in the stationary sections?

I've been thinking of splashing out on a Go Pro Silver to moount on my bike or helmet to capture my commutes to work and other journeys but they're rather expensive.

I did think about blurring out number plates but then decided I couldn't be bothered.

The sky is what gets me too. When we got to Ashford I generated a test of the first section of video and all of us were really impressed how well it worked.

If you don't want to spend the amount a GoPro costs you could get a cheap or second hand Canon compact camera and stick CHDK on it with a time lapse script. There's plenty of cheap mounts for standard tripod mountings on DealExtreme, included handle bar mounts. Something I would definitely do myself if I rode to work.

More likely to put on my helmet than bars I think. What about the weather proofyness?
