USB Drive woes

This laptop (ASUS X5DIJ) doesn't like my USB hard drive.

It's a 2.5 inch SATA->USB Bridge device which *should* be getting power from the USB interface. It works fine on my laptop, PC and Wii, but on this laptop the red light just flashes really fast. Windows doesn't even notice that anything's been connected or owt.

Any ideas? I'm thinking perhaps the USB port on this laptop can't provide enough power? :|

I agree.

You can buy double-ended USB cables (ie, one mini USB to two standard USB connectors). The idea is that they can pull power from two USB ports to help power up troublesome devices. Could be worth investing in!

I seem to recall that the enclosure came with a second cable that was usb to a power socket o the drive. Shame its at home and I'm not. It's proving quicker to re-download tje torrents on a second laptop than to transfer them using file sharing in Vista :-\
