Is it down or have you blacklisted me because you think my maze is shit?

You can blame scottish power for that - cunting engineer who came to replace the meter just fucking shut off the power without warning :@

OK, The whitelist is now turned on. Everyone that's replied in this thread is on the list so, assuming I've done it right, you should all be able to get on.

We also now have daily backups set up which should run around mid-day (presumably when everyone will be at work and not Mining....) so if you experience lag around that time that's probably why.

Ooh, Is there any way to get hold of these backups without asking you for them? I'd like to make a map. Partly to see how much I expanded the map by when I was wandering yesterday.

From what I've read of others' experience we might want to be a bit careful about that, the bigger the map the more it seemed to eat the server.

Not really. The backed up work is a zip file of about 45MB, and although I have no issues giving peoiple copies of it I'm not sure I really want to sit uploading 45 meg when my bandwidth is already being stretched by the server itself :|

I know. I tried to restrain myself, but every time I thought I'd head back I could see another patch of clay off in the distance.

I just can't help myself.

Fair enough. The maps tend to be out of date almost before they're finished rendering, anyway.

In theory, it only keeps in memory the chunks (16x16x8 that can currently be seen by someone, so once an individual has gone out of sight it's not much a matter of how far, (but just a bit of CPU and disk size as the world expands).

But given the various other stuff that's been said, I'm not sure how accurate that is.

If you know what you want, ask Kos nicely to produce the map and send you a 500KB image instead?

In fact, if it's not too server intensive, could one be auto-produced every hour/day/whatever?

I wouldn't trust anything online about the server unless it's from Mojang/Notch himself.

The server code is not optimised at all and does some really stupid things.

Aye, the Backup Plugin i'm using is meant to create a PNG of the world map when it does the backups, but I haven't installed the map plugin that actually lets it do that yet. I'll go about doing that now.

You're welcome :)

Seems daft not to - all my PC is used for these days is listening to iPlayer in bed and burning DVDs. It may as well get some use :D
