I agree. It felt as though they had spent all their time thinking up a fistful of bright ideas: new Klingons, the spore drive, gay characters, er - new Klingons. That was all quite intriguing over the first couple of episodes but when they'd done all that difficult thinking they were too worn out to bother with character development, plot-lines or a decent script. The acting has been reasonable but you can't blame the cast when plot, script and direction all plod. The only way they could make it worse would be to let Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss loose on it.

haha, I agree completely. Anyway, there's plenty more better telly. And The Expanse is back for S3 soon and is much better sci-fi than this. Phew!

I thought it was a pretty good sci-fi show, but a piss poor Trek. Just caught up with the final episode tonight, and the cliffhanger was so predictable I literally figuratively cringed.
I really enjoyed the first
mirror universe
episode, Jonathan Frakes did a decent job directing that and giving it a bit more of a Trek feel. That arc got old really quickly, though
:(
Going to watch The Orville next. I've heard many great things, mainly that it feels more like Star Trek than Star Trek.
Bootnote: People on the intertubes seem to be abbreviating Star Trek Discovery to STD. I find this quite amusing.

How is something that occurs in every other Star Trek episode, along with a
bunch of green-and-purple-hued bipedal humanoids wearing rubber masks, wigs and brandishing firearm-like weapons
, a "spoiler" ?

Oh, I do need to try The Orville. I'm catching up on Man In The High Castle just now and only have time for one at a time, but I'll try.
The very first Frakes episode had its moments but I was already irritated by so many characters that I didn't care. I'm actually pleased I was able to recognise the signs in time to not waste more time actually watching the thing.

A lot of characters grated, for sure. I probably wouldn't have got past episode 2 if I did have a week in bed with flu. It definitely improved after around episode 4, but overall it's a cack Trek.
I haven't even started Man in the High Castle yet. Only finished Breaking Bad over xmas

I have managed to watch the first 3 so far but I have found little reason to continue, as you said, life is too short!
