Often imitated, seldom equaled (Chinatown, LA Confidential, Twin Peaks and Sin City all spring to mind). Oh: Chinatown was released a year earlier though arguably, its writer was channeling Raymond Chandler.

Re-watched this last night almost exactly a year later, had to run a forum search to see if I had posted a TWR (or >TWR). Stellar cast, great photography (in living, sordid color), script and dialog. A true classic.
One of the very few Bruckheimer-produced things I've seen that wasn't cringeworthy garbage. What the hell happened to him?
