So basically you don't go for the cricket.

I like watching F1, Cricket, Snooker, Darts....
Actually being at an F1 race is great. I definitely enjoyed watching a cricket test match live, though that was at the 2nd attempt since the first one was rained off so I spent the day in Chester-Le-Street which isn't nice. I keep meaning to go and watch some live Darts. All can include drinking so that might be why.

I find this strangely at odds with your derring-do, garley hardcore MTB persona.

See, on the surface it looks like that, but actually the cricket is intrinsic. A day-long duel between a bowler and on-form batsman. The long-form narrative of a five-day Test with all the momentum swings therein. The snacks and the drinks. All vital!

Yeah I'm a complex soul to be sure
;-)
Many of my MTB-riding friends sneer at the idea of watching cricket or golf or playing either of 'em.
Hey, some friends of mine are in New York just now and went to a baseball game last night. Apparently in four hours, a total of two points were scored! Now that's rapid.

How do you cope with the cricket hooligans?

They are few and far between, but go and see a Twenty20 match and you will likely see some rowdy types drinking too much and singing bawdy tunes badly. Honestly, the best way to deal with that is to frown at them, this is a cricket match not some ribald hostelry. Actual crowd violence is pretty rare in cricket. Apparently a world cup match in India was called off because of it back in 1996 though. They get pretty passionate about their cricket over there.

Too much ... boredom. It drives them to displacement activity.
