No problem. After the initial confusion it appears things have gone relatively smoothly. :)

Money-wise, we'll see what happens once the other VPS is shutdown.
Had to pay €349 to get this new VPS setup, so best case scenario would be an appropriate refund, but one of their earlier messages implied a credit on the account instead, so we'd effectively be paying for some/all of next year's costs as well.

Eitherway, once I know the situation I will post to this thread.

Ok, forgot to do it yesterday, so just about to ask EuroVPS to shutdown the old server now.
(This should have no effect on here, unless something goes wrong.)

Someone needs to give them a proper English translator... :S

Haha, "Kindly hold on". I'm going to start using that phrase to my customers in emails. Awesome.

Which of the following would you most prefer?
A: a puppy,
B: a pretty flower from your sweety, or
C: a large properly formatted data file?

Heh. It was more the "...once they intimate us..." bit I was referring to.

I never get intimated by Billing, or any other department, where I work.

I read (even without faulty Bebelfish)

"We have forwarded your request to the Bling department."

Which I liked. Every ISP should have one.

Ok, so we've received a credit note for €500 on the account, for the unused portion of the previous subscription.

In an attempt to summarise things:

DateActionEURGBP
29 Jun 2008EuroVPS Payment€606.29£492.99
upto 7 Oct 2008Teh Donations£427.26
07 Oct 2008 EuroVPS Payment€349.56£283.86
12 Oct 2008 EuroVPS Credit€500.00£393.73

So, our new annual fee is less than 60% of what it was, but we effectively have to pay next years fee now rather than then.

Next year (Oct 2009-10), the credit amount will be used for the fee, and the following year (Oct 2010-11), we'll have €150.44 remaining credit and only need to pay €199.12 for that year.

Does that all make sense?

Can't they use the credit we have to pay for the new hosting plan?

The new plan had to be paid for before it was setup, and the credit only given after the old plan was closed down, so it couldn't be directly used.

Given the commission charge for currency conversion, even if they refunded the credit it would still cost to receive that refund, so it seems simpler to leave the credit on the account?

Is July 2007 when we're counting from? I've got a bit lost. Erm, here's how the amazon pot has done since then. Red ones are the money its actually paid out, and there's currently £7 in there (since it only pays after topping a tenner).

Around then... the hosting order is dated 13-Jul-2007, and actual payment dated 10-Aug-2007.

OK. Well, that's how much money we've got owing you from the Amazon pot.

It seems also like it might be a good idea for me to transfer ownership of the amazon affiliate to you, since I'm so bobbins at finding time to sort this lot out. You could have it paying direct into the teh account then. (Actually, I guess I could have it do that also, easily enough?)

Yeah that's fair enough. I wasn't criticising, just wondering. Thanks for sorting it out for us :D

I haven't actually got the Teh account setup yet. :S

I'll have to get back onto that, but this week I'll mostly be headless chickening, and next week I'm in Cornwall, so will attempt to sort it out when I get back from there.

Yes. Somewhere around £165ish, but I'm going to go attempt to draw diagrams and thermometers that make it all clear. :)

Ok, so there's a diagram following in a moment, but to summarise what it shows:

- We need to raise a further £164 now.

- We can then forget all about hosting fees until Sep 2010
(when we will need to raise around £162, depending on what happens to the EUR-GBP exchange rate between now and then)

Here's the image showing how all that works:
diagram showing breakdown of hosting fees/etc.

If anyone either hasn't yet donated, or is able to give a bit more, just give me a prod and I'll send you the payment details.
