Full Version: Windows Remote CMD

This might seem like an obvious one, but is there any software out there that would allow me to remotely use the command line on a windows system?

Like what you can do with a linux system with an SSH server and software like PuTTY. Can you do it with Powershell? I had a look at Powershell but it seemed far more complicated than it needed to be, especially compared to the linux command line, but then again I'm not trying to do anything powerful with it. I only need to be able to do a bit of browsing of files, deleting, copying, rebooting, shutting down etc. I don't want to use remote desktop for this.

You ever tried DameWorks? It does the remote command line thing and a host of other stuff. If you're interested I got a copy from Uncle Jim that, while a little out of date, works a treat.

PM me and I'll email it over (s'only +/- 5MB)

I just use OpenSSH on our server at work. Then connect to it with PuTTY and it's also possible to tunnel VNC connections via it as well.

How remote are you talking? If you're just doing it locally then I'd use Sysinternals PSEXEC. Lightweight and doesn't need anything installing on the machine you're connecting to.
