Full Version: FFXIII

Anyone interested?

I skipped the PS2, so the last FF game I played was FFVII on PSX and FFVIII on PC.
This one is the first 'proper' final fantasy on either PS3 or Xbox and previews so far look really good. I'm actually tempted to pre-order for once.

Also bizarrely, game has a collector's edition for the PS3 but not for the 360.

Yeah, I'm keen.

Like you, last one I played fully was FF7 on the PS1, and went nuts on all the collectables. :)

I tried FF8 but never twigged for me. Really looking forward to FF XIII. :)

Didn't this get appalling reviews?

I have heard some complaints that it is very linear but then every FF I have played is linear until about the last third when you get an airship and go looking for hidden bosses.

Metacritic has it down as an average of 83/100 with a lowest score of 70 so I wouldn't call them generally appalling reviews.

Lack of cities to explore and linearity - all known about and discussed in depth in the previews, so if that's the worst they've got to say then I'm not bothered.
Interesting that there's half a dozen reviews for PS3 and none for xbox yet though.

I'm not sure if it was released on 360 in Japan. Wikipedia says it wasn't so it wouln't surprise me if those are reviews of the japanese version.

I could've sworn Microsoft got this onboard to shift 360s in Japan....

Edit: Although having just read a comparison between 360 and PS3 versions I can see why they wouldn't release it over there. If you have the option of either, get the PS3 version.

My local Sainsburys broke street date. I just emptied Gamestation announcing it. Including the staff :D

Tee hee. Guess that's the problem with supermarkets selling it, stuff arrives it gets put on the shelves.

How come no one near me ever does that?

I would've got it but as I was on my way to get BFBC2 and I already have a pre-order for £31 I didn't bother.

So - what are these differences then?

Mostly graphical and performance related. PS3 version runs at 720p, 360 at 1024x576 or something.

It's running at pretty much a PAL resolution? That's awful. I should really start playing my 360 again now I've finally got it setup with my nice 1080p screen.

That makes a change - usually its the other way around. Wasn't Ghostbusters or something running at lower res on the PS3?

Ouch:http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-final-fantasy-xiii-face-off?page=1

Runs at 576p rather than 720p and textures are noticeably more blurred - see the screenshot sin the article.

Aye thats the article I read. You can really see it in some of those videos....still doesn't look bad for a 360 game but looks so much better on PS3.

The joy of the pre-rendered background.
