I'm too lazy to get it and check Peter, can Amanda work as a standalone backup strategy, as in without a server? I'd like to find something that does backups well, but only to an external hard drive.

Kthx (rose)

Like what? And why don't you practice what you preach? ;-)

I made ice cream last night - taking the opportunity of Creme Egg season to make that flavoured ice-cream. Only tasted a tiny bit before it went in the freezer, but was very nice. 3 Creme Eggs to just under a litre of ice cream.

I also applied for a job late on Friday night, but probably a bit early to expect to hear anything yet...
Actually that reminds me, there was a thread a few weeks back about decent jobsites to look at. I'm on Monster and CWjobs, so should check out which other ones were mentioned that I haven't looked at yet.

I accidentally crossed a picket line today. Well, techinically I didn't, as they hadn't bothered to setup a picket line at the entrance to the station that I normally use, but I was on the train to Glasgow before I realised.

Got off at the first stop and came back, where I spent about an hour debating whether or not I should get a refund with the ticket office staff and, eventually, manager.

I got a refund.

Try GFI's backup home edition, I'm using it to backup to an external drive and it works a treat, not sure if it does compression though, I've got a 1.5TB drive for around a third of that worth of data, so getting it compressed doesn't really bother me!

Oh, and it's free, which is nice, so you don't have to bother Uncle Jim. :J

clicky

I'm still using the RC of Windows 7 which will start shutting down every 2 hours tomorrow. Properly expires in July I believe.

I bought Creme Egg ice cream from Tesco last eek and it was yummy. half price too.

Been playing MW2 recently and I'm rubbish at it. Can't work out what's going on most of the time.

Shit, is that tomorrow?

I don't have time to do a reinstall of the proper OS at the mo, presumably Jim has a crack that I can borrow till then?

* Today.

If it's anything like the trial versions of XP, it won't be a graceful restart either, it literally spontaneously reboots.

You's gotta do what you's gotta do. That and I don't think I could look my colleauges in the eye if I turned up in Glasgow today, what with them all knowing I get the train through.

I thought you worked for Unite? Is the RMT part of Unite, then?

No, although they are based round the corner from us, and I share a desk with a guy who looks after Railtrack engineers.

But more to the point, we don't break other union's strikes. Solidarity, comrade.

I'm sitting on the train home. It's running a bit late, possibly because no one knew how to operate the doors. What I don't get about the whole strike thing is that most of the trains on the local Glasgow Central lines have driver operated doors, and it's never done them any harm. My usual train is one of the few with guard-operated doors. I take it the strike's not just as open and shut as that?

According to the leaflet that I got from the boys on the picket line (the nice, non-provocative one with the picture of the train crash on it), it's all about saftey.
